DHH's bit was a discovery, and fine one at that. However, by the end of it, I am little confused. To case mastery or not? Or is the message to make your own field?
What I'm hoping the piece bears out is Good + Good > Excellent.
Chase mastery and if you do, make sure you truly love what you do because becoming the best in any one domain mean obsessive devotion, as Hansson says. If you, however, want to be valuable in the market because you're different (not necessarily better than all others), you can focus on building a set of complementary skills. And then without the pressure to be the best, you have more room to explore and to fail even as you learn, and the journey could be more fun.
Thanks for asking. Hope this helps. Probably needs some work.
Mr Ambrose's kept me glued.
