Why is it so hard to get better at entrepreneurship or leadership?
One reason I’ve found is that in such spaces there are no laws, only principles. The principles are circumstantial. They depend on the context, the situation. And contexts change, situations evolve. What then must we practice if there’s no 2 + 2 = 4 for all situations?
That comes close to the question I got stuck in a couple of years ago when I could not dissolve the problems at work and in my life using the tools formal education had given me.
I’ve come to grasp that better decision-making is better pattern-matching. What are those situations I find myself in, again and again, and how can I deal with them better—managing my time under stress, prioritizing my problems, finding my core values, influencing without authority, knowing when to double down and when to pull back, and so on?
Documenting answers to this led me to write for myself. Not long after, I realized that there are probably many more like me. The outcome of my efforts to codify principles and trace patterns across situations and disciplines is Decision Decoder, my four-part e-book series. I think of it as a toolkit to help you make smarter choices.
